Legal Framework
Italy's fertility law (Law 40/2004, amended) allows IVF for married and cohabiting heterosexual couples. Since a 2014 Constitutional Court ruling, gamete donation (egg and sperm) is legal. PGT is permitted following a 2015 court decision. Surrogacy is prohibited. Maximum embryos that can be created and transferred are determined by physician.
